"If you want a child's mind to grow...You must first plant a seed"
Community School Gardens is a hands-on learning experience and interactive way for students to learn what it takes to build and grow a garden, as well as fostering a healthy way of living.
For our first school garden project, C.A.C. Cares teamed up with JHS 278 Marine Park and Joan Snow Pre-K Center in Brooklyn, NY.
On April 29th, C.A.C. Cares volunteers, alongside Valley Tree Services Inc., facilitated a “Garden Clean Up Day” for both locations. The volunteers donated their time to clean the garden areas at the schools; removing weeds, raking leaves, laying down mulch, trimming trees/shrubs and installing planter boxes.
On May 18th, C.A.C. Cares and Valley Tree returned to the schools to plant with the students. Carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, pumpkin, and basil were a small portion of the nutritional plants that were placed in the gardens.
